Seat spring repair
«
on:

I have a seat Ghia seat that needs a little repair on the springs. There are a few that have come apart and need welding.
Anybody have this done before? Anybody know who I can take this to?
Thanks
Trevor

I know a guy that knows a guy.....probably cost u about 12k?? Haha
Not usually a good idea to weld spring steel....heat turns it to butter! Are the springs rusted through or are the little clips just broke? Outside perimeter flat spring ok?
On my 55 I remade most of the backrest zigzag springs with bulk spring steel wire and a simple jig to bend the loops.
I have a correct full length middle seat for my 56 kombi that I've been harvesting parts out of newer seats to repair it. Over the years they have had similar designs. I have found online upholstery retailers that sell any style spring you could ever think of too.

HA! Nice.. deal!
I stripped one seat and I need to replace 3 of the "S" springs along the top. The rest seem fine, including the outer perimeter frame. They are rusted through, the clips are still in place. I suppose I could try and grab a spare seat from somebody and use that

I've got early ghia seat springs if you ever come this way. Not sure what it would cost to ship one to you, but we could look into that.

Hi Dan,
Perfect.. can you sell me a seat back? If so how much? I can drive down to Bellingham and get it.

Trevor,
I was thinking bottom springs. I do have a single seat back too, but it's not the thin, lowlight style. Its from a '66 - do you think I might work still? I'd $40 (US) for it.
