This past Saturday after the Bob & Dan Show, Shawn Martin and I decided to go camping upto the Squamish area with a stop at Dave Hord's house for a BBQ.
We decided to meet at the 7-11 in Squamish. As Shawn and I pulled in we spotted another Baywindow and parked alongside. As we got out we saw a woman sitting on the ground behind the bus with engine parts and oil everywhere.

Looks like our plans just changed!

I asked her what's going on and she kinda looked up with the dear in the headlights look.... "We've been here 36 hrs, Rafael can tell you the problems better"
We notice it has Mexican plates on it, Thats a long way away from home to be stuck.

Rafael tell's us he came from Mexico with his bus, He drove to Calgary and stayed there for a while with his friend Dana (sp) Then the two set out on their adventure.
They made it thru the Rockies to BC where the engine started to make noise and crap out. They limped to the 7-11 - Mc Donalds parking lot and decided to replace the engine with a spare he had in the van (the ultimate spare parts to carry) When we arrived they had replaced the heads and pistons onto the spare engine and installed it.

On fire up it too sounded terrible!

This is when we pulled up.
We asked if we could help, Dave lived just a few minutes away and had some spare parts. Between Dave , Shawn and myself we should be able to get them going again.

Little did we know there was going to be a lot to do!
Once at Daves we pulled the engine, checked end play and then the next 4 hours we tore into the repairs. Although not a full rebuild it may as well have been. There was a lot of ... ummm how do you say this nicely... questionable repairs and mods done over the years.

Dave quickly gathered a large pile of parts while Shawn and I replaced and repaired anything we could. (it was a looooong list)

Once back in Raphael looked a little worried as he was about to turn the key. Vroom! it fired up and sounded great! I've never seen such a big smile!
It was a very happy moment, a quick test drive and a timing adjustment and they were back on the road and headed for a much needed sleep!

For us it was off to the Pub for some much needed dinner and drinks.
Great job guys!

The chances of everything just coming together like that, huh? Kudos on helping them get back on the road again. Must have been quite the interesting day for everyone. Are you going to keep in touch with them? Really love that last picture there. Hope their trip goes well. :)

We did manage to find a lake to camp although it was just in a parking lot for the night. Sunday we did a little exploring in the Buses.

Oh, man, this story made my night!

I bet they ended up with a much better motor than they've had in a long time.
