1984 Rabbit GTI - How much?
« on: June 21, 2015, 08:02:49 PM »
The neighbour's offering to sell me his '84 Rabbit GTI.  He's quoting the company that rebuilt his engine (overbored 25/1000") 5 years ago whom said he could get $4,000 for it.  He says it was repainted ~5 years ago but admits it didn't hold up (chipping, yet no rust that I'm aware).  I'm still interested, but there are a few minor issues, e.g. it smells like mildew (passenger side's roof drain hose is detached), the headliner is loose at the rear (where it meets the trunk lid), and various interior parts (armrests) are brittle/broken.  Is $4,000 CDN fair?

If it's the one in Langley off of 192nd and 64th area, that guys been trying to sell it for the last 4 years it seems. Well over. 400,000 kms on the body and yes it's a little moldy smellin inside as it hasn't moved in years.

It's a $2000-2500 car and I think he's just too attached to the car to want less for it .

It looks good from far, but it's far from good.

If it's a different car, sorry, I can't comment.

Quick response and VERY close with the area (consider he appears to tool it back and forth between 2 houses on the same street).  Black?  Do you recall the owners name?  I'll refrain for anonymity and just ask: start with F?

Thanks.

yes, black in color.  I forget the owners name, but it has got to be the same car.  He always had it backed into the driveway which slopes down toward the house.

My brother in law wanted to buy it as his first car about 4 years ago and we went to look at it.  I guess the guys still has it!
