wiper switch bad? need help
« on: May 14, 2015, 10:28:55 PM »
been fighting with trying to wire up my wipers tonight.
i have a 65 beetle but it's a 67 style motor and switch (two speed)

i have a brand new wiring works harness i was hoping to install this weekend.
since my 65 only had 3 wires off the motor i have made a 4th and matched them up

53b to 53b
31b to 31b
53 to 53
53a to 53
leaving me a 30 and a 31 on the switch
the motor was completely gone through and rebuilt a couple years ago and put away for this day.
when installed in the car i get nothing at all
if i jump power to either of the two speeds it works nicely

so this is what i have done so far

pulled the whole assembly out and hooked the wires to the switch and to the motor.

ground from motor tab to switch base(the part that goes through the dash) i get nothing with power connected to the 31 tab

take the ground wire and come directly from negative battery terminal to base of switch and it works, sort of it constantly is on the high and lows work but when off it keeps going and does not park?

i am at a loss right now, is there a way to test the switch to see if it's working

any help is appreciated
thanks russ

also as per the wiring diagram my switch has a 53,53A,53B,31,31B and a 30 (i assume the 30 is just considered 31-negative or ground)

just checked it's a swf brand

I know you can't see the numbers really well but the placement of the wires should line up

Hey Russ looked at your pictures and compared to my car all you have to do is switch the yellow wire and the solid black wire and it should work that's on the switch only...steve
