A Reminder Of Why We..and I..do What We Do.
« on: July 26, 2004, 09:32:11 PM »
Well, after another few hours of staring at the ass end of my bug thinking WTF?!? is wrong with this damn thing..i decided to say Fu%k it and go for a blast..hehe i have never really gone for a high speed run in this thing..well..not like this anyhow..the roads were clear...getting dim outside..nice cool summer night..and a turbo charged 66 VW beetle..

i turned off the light on my oil gauge and slapped a peice of tape over it so i could not see what i did not want to see while trying to enjoy my drive.. and took off for some much needed bug time.. a few hard corners and some long straights..a few blasts of the bov as i was peakin at 12PSI...a few looks from some chicks in a big Yoda :) and a couple gettin loose stop sign launches (i was in the stix)

dont know how bad my OIL psi was..really dont even care..the car ran awesome and strong..really strong..I still have the jitters...i dunno bout you guys..but other then some REALLY good tang..i dont think there is ANYTHING better then going for a blast in a HiPo bug..

i have been in some FAST cars..but this thing is mental..no matter how much i hate it..LOL i will never quit thats for sure..sometimes i seem to loose sight of why im doing what im doing..but a 30 minute drive is all thats needed to very much remind myself.

Not really any point to this post other then me wanting to tell someone i just went for a kick ass cruize in the bug..and had some fun with it for once!

If ya made it this far..thanx for hearing me out!
have a good night!

Nice, good to see it didn't blow up on ya! Did you ever try a different pressure gauge to confirm yours is bang on?

I used to love tang when I was younger, I prefer Gatorade now  :P

My friend has a similar theory on mechanical bits...

1) You try your best, and fix it as best you can.
2) If you've done the above and it still doesn't work, DRIVE THE PISS OUT OF IT! :)

If it breaks, go back to #1.

Or, I've had a few modded DSM's (don't get me started) and they make wierd click/clack noises.  Turn up the radio :)

(Nothing ever went wrong, just lots of things that scared me, like your oil light).

last friday a buddy of mine gave me a call 20 minutes before i had to leave the house for work. he was in the neighbourhood cruising in his 1641 ida fed buggy & asked if i wanted to go for a quick jolt. after lifting the wheels through first and blasting down the block, water was streaming out of my eyes. thats what happens when you ride in a windsheildless buggy that goes from 0-60 in what seems like seconds. we tooled around the neighbourhood and he jammed it in second gear and popped out the clutch, squeeled the tires and lifted the wheels again.

fun stuff.

needless to say it had been quite some time since my last ride in an acvw. and this one definately made the night at work more enjoyable.

a 1641 makin wheelies?? even in a manx thats kick ass..lol i wish someone would take me for a blast in a manx that could lift the tires!

hehe but i know all about the no windsheld..while i was building my baja bug in my buddys shop about 10 blocks away..i would drive it home many days after we had done what we had to do..no plates..no nothing..doors tied shut with wire..and best of all..no windsheld..dont wear a hat..and make sure you have some sun glasses :)

and i plan to drive it till it drops now..im gonna install the oil cooler..and swap the oil out one more time for some diffrent stuff..and send some of what comes out off 2 finning to get a test done on it..but other then that..im driving it.

he may have a 1679? in there, but it's definately no bigger than that. mouse motor baby!! and pullin the tires up w/ probably close to 300 pounds of driver and passenger combined. he says they really pull up when it's just him in it. i'm pretty sure the buggy isnt a meyers manx but it's a damn fine spitting image of one. he's got some crazy ass 12\" velocity stacks on the idas that are pretty much sitting right behind your head. that and straight cuts, this thing screams.

wayyyy too much fun.
