Looking For A Special Crank..any Ideas?
« on: July 24, 2004, 12:49:12 PM »
Im gonna start on my new motor as soon as i get back from my new outa town job..but i have been told that i might have a long wait to get ahold of the crank im looking for..i am wanting to know if anyone out this way can get a hook up on the crank im looking for..or if this is one of those direct from the source kinda deals..also..im looking for some other odds and ends..maybe you know where i can find them.

Im looking for a SCAT or a MOLDEX 78-79mm stroke 1 piece flanged crank with ALL type 4 mains and porsche rod journals.

Im also looking for a set of like new condition 5.4\" or 5.5\" carrillo (sp?) porsche journal rods for 22mm wrist pins..

the other thing i need to know is..who is selling a GOOD aftermarket type 1 case? i have heard lots of problems with some of the new aluminum blocks..but really i have no personal experience with them..so...

and is RIMCO the only machine shop that will cut my new case for all type 4 mains and a flanged fly wheel or can i get this done local?

basicly i want to get the crank underway before i take off so it will be ready when i get back..

thanx for any help.

either phone scat or moldex directly,
better bet phone bob at demello machine shop and get a full circle crank,
he will answer any questions you have and may also aid in your mentioned choices about journal and main bearing sizes,

Cale It's my understanding that you can get all of what you want from several of the crankshaft \"builders\" I've heard that quite a few people have these type of cranks built on a VW core. So why not ask Geoff to check it for you from their supplier. Perhaps save you alot of footwork and hassle and in the middle of it all Airspeed earns a living with little of no extra expense to you. Cale, we have a Scat order going in this week or if you like we can at least get you a price.
Cases, we can get one shiped up that has all the machine work done. Alum or mag.

So what was wrong with the last one (your eng with low oil psi)

Im gonna have one last go at the low PSI motor this weekend....if i cant find an \"external\" fix for my problem..i might just park it untill i get back from Outa town..or i will tear it down and repair whatever needs to be repaired...that way it works while im building my new motor..

either way..it will be for sale..or parts of it at least..but if i sell it whole im not gonna sell a peice of junk..i will fix the problem then sell it.
