Hey, just puttin' it out there, I was wondering if anybody has any 30mm, or 28mm venturis for a set of 40mm Dellorto's? I'm running a spiced up 1600 and the stock 34mm venturis are a bit big, hence I have no bottom end and the engine hesitates/bogs down until around 2000RPM but revs to 6000RPM no problem. I'm looking for a little more push off the line. If no one has them does anybody know of someone who can make up a set for me?

Thank for the help!

Sounds kind of like idle jets. What size are they?

Are 40mm Dellorto's compatable with Webber IDFs?  If so I have a set of 28mm venturies I'll trade for your 34mms :D

I had Geoff give me a hand tuning the carbs and timing, and he seemed to think the idle jets were ok( they're 55's ) he actually suggested to get smaller
venturis, I just don't know what will work better, 30's or 28's, and also if going too small will limit any top end I have now? any ideas?
However, if I the weber and dellorto venturis are compatible I think that sounds like a fair trade, whats your number?

Goop 'em up with JB Weld or something similar. Then get them turned to 28mm on a lathe.... ?
Just an idea

Trade them with someone for some Weber 40 IDFs.  They come with 28mm vents.

Well........... I ran an old used set of 44 idf's  on a bone stock 1600 for years and never had any boging or hesitation and had at least as much bottom end as the stock carb , even passed air care .  I'm sure the smaller vents would be nice but I'm not sure it's causeing the boging or hesitation.  My first guess would be idle jets but 55's should be fine .  I'd be tempted to try a 60 just to see what happens.

At this point I'll try anything! Its not that it runs bad, I just don't know why it would bog down as it does before 2000rpm? ohh well I'll be at air speed tommorow and I'll try Idle jets to make sure. Speaking of them at what point do the main jets take over from the idles? on a typical set up?

I had 40 Dells on a 1776 years ago. That engine hauled ass right off idle. They came with 34mm venturis and had the same problems you did. I switched to 30mm ones and they were perfect for a 1776 w/stock heads and small exhaust pipes (stock FI exhaust). On a 1600, the 28's would work great. Sorry, I can't remember the jetting.

But one important thing - check out that 009's curve! I bought an 009 down in California before they all went to crap and it worked great on that motor. Try to borrow another dist or two just to see the difference it can make. It's only a few minute swap.
