WTB 1979 Bus heat exchanger - left side
« on: December 02, 2014, 12:43:50 PM »
I'm looking for a Bus left side heat exchanger for a 79 only - square exhaust ports.  Must be oil free, rust free (surface ok) and not patched or in need of gobs of HT sealer where the outer tin meets the exhaust  pipes.  Not interested in a Dansk repo.

I have 75-78 heat exchangers (oval exhaust ports) in good shape plus a near new eliminator muffler for the same years for trade.  Will pay cash as well for the 79 exchanger.

Thanks.

Thanks.  79 is a one year only with square/ rectangular exhaust ports.  I have the CA emissions and the whole left side and crossover pipe are totally different from the US federal/Cdn setup.  Only good thing is that it comes with the genuine VW electronic ignition.

Seen it yes.  Perhaps I should have been more clear as to my needs.

I am looking for the Canadian/US Federal left heat exchanger for a 1979 with square exhaust ports.

Thanks for pointing out the ambiguity.

Doh!, I missed the Federal part, you may have to sacrifice a square port exchanger and weld the pipes onto a 72-74 one.

Don't think you missed it.  I wasn't very clear.  Just want to ditch that CA plumbing monstrosity and go with a Bugpack header system.  I may keep the CA fuel injection and weld an O2 bung right at the collector like the Oranje Trophy boys did with the Thunderbird exhaust on their CS engine.  They said the O2 sensor wasn't too far downstream and still worked well with their engine mgt. system.  If not I have a really nice running 77 FI setup that I could swap in.  My motor would probably like it more and I wouldn't have my eyes glued to the head temp gauge on hot days.

There a couple of places in the US that I haven't checked with yet for the exchanger but the dollar is only around 75 cents when you factor in PayPal costs or credit card exchange rates.  If I had a clear answer as to how much less heat a Dansk put out I might go for one.  20 degrees less heat I could live with.  50 not so much.  I do most of my short drives in the winter and that is when I need the heat too.

Those are for an aircooled vanagon.  Air inlets are round.  The one I am looking for is like the pics below although the pics are of the Dansk left unit. Thanks all the same.

Still looking and prefer to find one local.

To recap:

I am looking for a 79 only bus (USA federal/Canadian) left heat exchanger with square ports.  OE VW and not Dansk.

This is what it looks like.
