Mouse advice
« on: February 14, 2014, 06:20:24 PM »
With spring rolling we saw a few mice in our Vancouver house. Anyone have any good pest control places or have great ways to rid the little bastards?

GLUE TRAPS!!! they work like a hot damn, and you don't have to deal with blood. but be warned, they will be alive after they get caught. how you deal with that is your "problem" . they also catch spiders and insects quite well too.

Mouse trap with peanut butter as bait. Place along your walls (snap facing wall). Biggest thing is to find out how they are getting in to stop it from happening again.

if you look for a hole fill it with steel wool.   Mice hate the stuff and won't go near it.  They will run along the walls always in the same spots because they pee as they run leaving a trail to follow in the future.  Place traps along the wall not in open areas.  Peanut butter does work great.  We had one pop up in our dental office  last year and it was my job to kill it.  Two days and no more mice...

^^^^What Thomas said. Tried everything and finally found where they were coming in and out. Filled it with some rodent spray foam. That solved it.  Unfortunately they can come in a 1/2" opening.

Canadian pest control sells peanut butter scented glue strips, they work great, avoid poisons, if they get in your walls and die your hooped, the smell is awful. Steel wool definitely the best way to plug holes. Check your copper pipes for chew marks as well. Had to replumb a friends house because they messed up all the pipes.

I have the same problem in my shop up here.  I've used humane traps and glue strips but nothing works better than  an empty garbage can with peanut butter on the bottom of it . I place a peice of wood with some peanut butter on it from my bench to the garbage can. They jump right in for food and there's no way out. Works great !

Had the same problem years ago .. First thing find out where tjere getting in .. Plug with steel wool, then i used a combo of sticky traps and snap traps baited with PB .. And also do a good cleaning of your house . Place all food high up, you don't want them to have any other food source other than the trap!

A friend of mine had trouble with a mouse years ago. They'd all been drinking one night and he heard the little bastard scratching at something inside a wall.Once the beast's location was determined,a pencil mark was made indicating the spot.Out came the hunting rifle and  "BANG!"through the wall.It was a bit messy extricating the corpse, but a job well done.Nothing says good times like hard liquor and fire arms.

Back in the day when I was selling VW parts down in Oregon, I was alone in the store standing at a computer terminal. Just to change positions I stepped back and felt something under the heel of my shoe. I thought I dropped and apple slice or something, but apparently I perfectly timed an unseen mouse on the floor and squished him! The chances of that happening again are slim to none!

I had problems in my house with rats for years. I would be catching 3-4 of those fuckers a week. If you think you have just one, guess again. You wont truly get rid of the problem till you find out how their getting in. Winters are worst cause they all want a warm place to call home.
