Porsche 356 Engine and Transmission Stolen
« on: February 11, 2014, 10:49:01 AM »
I have had a Porsche 356 engine and transmission stolen from my trailer.  Both are full race modified.  Neither are usable in a street car.  Although it is uncertain, I suspect the thieves probably don't know what they have or even that they are Porsche.   The engine looks very similar to VW with an upright fan housing and dual Solex carbs.  It is mounted on a roller cart.  The transmission looks like a swing axle VW with disc brakes.  Please be on the look out in case they surface in the Porsche or VW community.  Given the opportunity I would buy them back without hesitation, no questions asked.  The engine is serial#409521 and the transmission is #70872.

I have owned this drivetrain for over 25 years and it is very special to me.  Please PM me if you hear of anything that sounds like this.

Could you tell us where it was stolen from? Or at least the area... Any contact numbers that we can reach you at ?
If more power is better. Then too much is just enough.
Why do it once when you can do it thrice?

Squamish Scrap metal dealer are friends of mine, and the girls know what VW stuff looks like. She'll call me if anything has been dropped off, or gets dropped off in the future.

RECOVERED!

Thanks to a very honest citizen.  The thief randomly knocked on the door of a fellow who happened to have 2 Vintage VW's in his driveway, and tried to flog the engine and tranny.  The VW guy checked out the engine, searched the internet for the serial #, and found my posting!  Police called, warrant, arrest and RECOVERY!  My faith in human kind is (somewhat) restored!  Thanks to all who spread the word.

Nice!, A happy ending!
What is it about VWs that attracts such good people! I have been involved in many kinds of cars and the people that go with them, since a teen and I swear that VW people are the nicest most awesome people around!

Did the cops release the name of the loser who tried to sell the engine?

Might as well publicise the guy's name to further drag him through the mud.
