Alt Pulley Problem
« on: July 28, 2013, 10:01:58 PM »
Frustrated... I've been having some issues with belts and realized it was my pulley.  I replaced with a new pulley Brand Kafer. (CIP1) It lasted about 30 KM.  The back pulley shattered.  Torqued to 40lbs as per TheSamba Forum. ( Samba info was 40 to 47 lbs)There is a nice size shim between the pulley and the Bosch Alternator giving good even load distribution...IMHO.  Pulley didn't look cheap other than four small welds holding the pulley half to the center piece... which is what I think let go. Belt tensions seemed good to me @1/2 side play and 1/4 turn twisting the belt.   Any thoughts?... I am thinking crappy pulley over my bad instal?

Awesome customer support from CIP1, knowledgeable and experienced staff.  They fixed me up.  Very happy with the customer support and delivery times.
