It Could Of Been A Lot Lot Worse
« on: June 25, 2004, 10:57:57 PM »
As far as places for brakes to fail you can do a lot better or worse then 1st avenue and commerical. A block later by terminal I may not even be talking to you guys right now or my bug may of not been able to drive on or push on. Coming up on the light in late evening traffic I pushed down on the pedal like I had done so many times before. And my pedal went to the firewall and stuck like the master had just died. Some swearing and realization that I had nothing to do but roll into the back of the chrysler was what unfolded. We hit we bounced and hit again   :(  :(  Pushed her two blocks to a side street to see why I lost my brakes. Pin had come out because that stupid little clamp/bracket had come loose and the pin popped out. And do to my emergency brake cables being to short I didn't have a parking brake. So whats to be learned? Not to sure on the bracket/clamp thing.  And also I will never ever ever drive anywhere without a functioning parking brake again. The fix we came up with to get us home was safety wiring the pin in place and taking the back roads. So now Seabert sits in Poco. My pride hurt and my brand new front bumper is screwed up and god knows what else got beat up...
I'm going out tommorow to survey and fix.

Push rod on the pedal assembly. Can't figure out how the hell it managed to flex up enough to let the pin come out. So far my damage survey is that my bumper is seriously tweaked enough to hit the passenger side fender and remove paint. And my bumper brackets are toast...

That's really too bad man. Sorry to hear you had a bump. Sounds like the damage is not too bad, so like you say it could have been worse.

I have some new bumper brackets and a front bumper with over riders you can have if you need em.

Let me know
Shane

Thanks. Right now the big problem is figuring out how that clip came out and how to stop it from ever happening again and getting a handbrake..
I'll let you know.

Hey Kirin,
Sorry to hear that happened. Many people put that clip and pin in the wrong way, double check the clip or tab depending on what you have in yours.

I'll be coming in a bit later to try and get a new tab since mine is screwed. I really don't like the whole \"Pin\" and tab deal and wish there was a bolt through it instead of a pin that is entirely based on a metal tab holding it in.
