i got this piece with a "buy all or nothing" deal. i dont need it so i'm looking to unload it, but dont know what type/year it's for or what it's worth and would like to have some idea before i post it up in the classifieds. pretty sure it's type III, but couldnt find any info after searching thesamba or the cip catalogue.

any ideas? thanks in advance!

That ignition switch housing may have been from a TIII, but it looks the same as a TI of the same era. The ignition switch and lock assembly may be worth a few $ by themselves, but someone might need the housing too if there's was broken trying to remove it or maybe someone tried to steal the car. If it was mine (and I have a few laying around), I wouldn't expect to get more than $20-$25 for it. If it still had the turn signal lever in it, maybe $30-40.

1968-1971 Karmann Ghias also used the same part. I literally just replaced my Ghia ignition switch this week and paid ~$22.00 for an EMPI knockoff version and I had to solder on my own connectors. I would certainly have paid $30.00 for a good OE German original with intact wiring like yours. Plus, your part has the lock cylinder with key, plus it has the contact bearing...
