pancake motor in a beetle?

i have a chance for an almost free motor(1500 sp} with a bugpac intake & 2 barrel carb. the only trouble is its a flat oil cooler & rear fan.{sorry im not familiar with that style} how tough is it to put it in a beetle or is it not worth the trouble? the motor is in a rail & runs well

All the beetle tin will fit on the type 3 once you strip off the flat cooling system and get it down to a longblock, the oil cooler works with the VW adaptor for the doghouse system or an early one bolts right to the case (check the seal bores to get the right combination), the only issue is a true type 3 case has no oil pressure sender hole so you'll have to drill or use the one on the cooler.

so the heat exchangers & generator stand etc will fit? i noticed an oil pressure sender up by the cooler. does it get covered by the upright tin? i can get the motor cheap enough but i still dont want to throw away $$ & have a boat anchor. i have a complete 1970 1300 to rob all parts from if theyre interchangeable.  thanks for the help

You'll also need a dipstick adapter.

The 1300 may supply some parts but you'd be better off going doghouse with it mainly to have a place to screw in the pressure sensor, unless you are up to drilling the oil passage for the sender.

sounds like unless im desparate for a motor,pancake is too much wasted time & money. hopefully i can find something else
