Just wanted to know what VW used to paint the engine case and transmission? Do they have a color code for this

i dont think they ever painted the transmission. it is just the natural colour of the metal it's made of. (greyish). and i'm pretty sure the same goes for the magnesium case. it's the colour of magnesium. i'm pretty sure that this is \"original\" from the factory.

someone will correct me if i'm wrong.

i'm going to paint my trans yellow w/ bright green ribs.

Yeah , I don't believe they ever painted them. You can use High temperature Engine paint. Alot of people don't believe you should ever paint the engine. It impedes the Heat Transfer. I painted one engine. Looked good.

yup, i'm pretty sure it's always been plain ol' magnesium... if you are going to paint the engine, may i suggest powdercoating. last summer, i painted the generator stand with clear coat hi-temp paint, but it's gone a little yellow. not sure if colour would do the same, and i have heard those arguments pauly is talking about with heat transfer/cooling; but if you're going to do it, might as well do it right.... but if you're set on doing it yourself, i found hi-temp paint does an awesome job on tin.

Both cases have never been painted.
I wouldn't powder coat a case. The temperature to cure (melt?) the powder to make it flow is high enough to adversly alter the strength of the case.
