backfiring ? HELP NEEDED
« on: June 16, 2012, 12:52:01 PM »
ok so i have a sandrail with a vw 1600cc with new 30pict 30 carb, stock fuelpump, distributer with SV new cap, rotor, points, and coil. i have been the best at finding timing useing a 12v test light and has been runing ruff. road hard and put to bed like this. now i was working on the maintaince on this and was not getting any good spark i have a tons of new parts i have been using and had most of the stuff i needed. checked wires and plugs all good timing is on and starts fine. it seemed to have a lot of gas in the oil? and so i changed all the seals and i am waiting on parts for the rest. so i changed the oil and cleaned every part to make sure no leaks. i get the engine running and then it backfires bad and runs ruff. so my question is that the new carb is set to good specs checked that changed fuel pump and seals and intake boots and seals on carb. set timing to test light. and still getting a back fire? and just runs rough. any help would be great. it is set up on motor for a type 3 style tin and is a FI motor converted to carb. so having a distributer that fits to time was hard. was wondering there is alot of help on here and was going to also ask about valves? i have never done anything like that so would that be the part of off timing? it still seems to have gas in the oil not alot but is still there. any help will be thanked for sure pics were from last time i used all has been cleaned and new parts are on engine. just replaced the parts nothing new at all

It sounds like the fuel pump. They can still pump even though they're leaking fuel into the engine block. If you didn't use a new one that's where I'd start.

was thinking more on the backfiring issue. i had gotten a new pump it was the old one leaking in the block thanks. any ideas on the backfireing and running rough i just have to set timing again and try it but wondering if anyone has had a valve problem that would cuase this to hae bad firing or timing
