VW Classic Hotel Options
« on: March 23, 2012, 08:39:45 PM »
Just booked the host hotel for the Classic. Looking at some reviews it looks ok, but nothing great. Anyone have any tips on places to stay around the area that might be better? Better location, amenities, etc The price is hard to beat ($94) just wanted to make sure it was the best option.

Chris,

I would recommend staying at the Crowne Plaza (host hotel) for this event.  The hotel facilities are ok but it really is the hub of the weekend as far as where out of town people stay.  The hotel parking lot turns into a daily car show in between all the other events through out the LA area.  I always enjoy waking up, looking out my hotel room window and seeing a parking lot full of aircooled VW's.  I don't think you will be dissapointed staying at the Crowne Plaza.

Thanks Rob. That's what I figured just wanted to make sure since I will be there for almost a week.

The Kelowna crew stayed there last year and found the hotel to be clean and proper but it's located in a business area style that is boring for stuff to do. Go stay near the beach and enjoy the California women and better places to eat and drink. We are going to stay somewhere else this year either Huntington or Newport beach.

The Crowne Plaza is nice and it's cool to be where all the VW's (plus your cars are very safe there if you have it with you) are but like Getgeoff said there are some better areas to stay and enjoy your off time.

Huntington and Newport can be expensive but if you stay just up the hill the prices are better. We stay often at the Ramada in Costa Mesa (5 min or less to Newport) outdoor swiming pool and hot tub. There's even a VW repair shop a block away.  It has a trader Joes across the street, outback, CVS, taco places and lots of food near by. It's 10 min from the Host hotel and as mentioned 5 min to Newport where all the pubs, beaches, bike rentals and entertainment are.

Geoff, that spot look pretty good and almost the same price! I will have my car down there. My wife is going also and sounds like that would be a better spot for here to hang out in. Would you trust your car in the lot no worries?

(just found my wife get's a deal through here work and it's only $70 a night!)

Thanks Kevin, if I need to pick up any hookers or blow I will head down to that area.

Yes I've had the buggy among other cars there with no problem. My chick liked it better there as it has an outdoor pool hot tub, that way she can hang there while I do car stuff.

I'm bringing my girl too and will look at geoff's suggestion at Costa Mesa and maybe the girls can hang out while the boys play with their toys. :08:

Well I gave in a switched too the Ramada in Costa Mesa. Looks like there is a little more in the area and should be more fun for the wife.

The best part is parking is FREE! Saves some good coin over the host hotel.

Well the Okanagan group has booked into the Comfort Inn on Newport Blvd in Costa Mesas just up from Geoff and his girl. We got it for 105 per night with free parking and free HOT BREAKFAST... Gordo will be so happy with that. It even has a pool.. :49:
