I was taking a friend's 74 BMW 2002 to the mechanic for him in the fall of last year.  As I passed by Oak street on 49th I smelt some plastic burning.  Then the smoke appeared from behind the dash and the front cowl area.  I quikly pulled over and popped the hood to find the heater unit engulfed in flames.  Seems the heater unit was siezed and overheated.  I ran across the street to a residence where the ownwer was outside.  I asked him for a bucket of water becaue my car was on fire.  I wasn't sure he understood me because e was Chinese and didn't respond to me ote then ran away.  I frantically looked around for something to carry water with.  I found some type of plastic pail but the house didn't have any outside taps??  Then the owner came running out with a pot of water!!  Saved the car, but not the heater unit.  The car was getting a tune up prior to being shipped to Ontario to a new owner.
