VVWC site...
« on: January 25, 2012, 10:46:54 PM »
not sure if i've been banned  or if something is seriously f'ed with the victoria vw site...but i went on there last night from the laptop and all hell broke loose (nasty pop-ups, warnings of viruses, trojan horses, etc) and tried tonight from the imac and it redirects me to some other site.

anyone from the vvwc want to clarify? anyone else experience the same? (be carefull!)

hope everything is ok over there.

Some joker hacked into your brouser and made some changes.

Download another brouser i.e. Firefox/Mozilla or Chrome (from Google)

I just accessed the site by going back through my browsing history. The site itsself seems to by fine, but if I do a search for vvwc.ca I get all sorts of different c**p. I'm not computer savvy enough to know what this means. Anyone?

I've looked into this and I don't think it's a problem with the site, but it my be related to my isp or IP address.  Seems that if you search for the site in any major search engine, like google, yahoo or bing, you get a polluted result that redirects you to another site.  If you actually type vvwc.ca into your location bar or access the site via a bookmark or favourite it loads fine and is malware free.  I don't yet know the cause of this, but I'll continue to investigate.  In the mean time, don't access the site via a search engine.

Yah, it looks like the site was compromised.  Not sure how they got in yet, but several sites on my server were affected.  Anyway, I've restored from backup from the 22nd (hack happened on the 23rd) and all is well again.  The forum posts and other content is still current since the database wasn't compromised so I didn't have to restore that.  Just the physical files were affected.  I'll keep an eye on it to make sure it doesn't happen again.
