What do you think?
« on: December 10, 2011, 03:05:22 PM »
Just wondering what you all think about this. Do you have any tips or advice?
I've never done this before so I'm curious.   :soother1:

You didn't include all of the above, that's a tough question because no 2 owners or shops concentrate on the same details, some have engine/mechanical skills, some obsess on the body or suspension, some are good at making things look shiny, and some are just good at putting lipstick on a pig in all those areas you mention. Then there's the ones who call it a restoration when it's really a rebuild or customization, well done or not.

What exactly are you looking for here? Recommendations?, where to start?, what not to do?, what are your goals and budget?

Just wondering what everyone's experiences have shown them. Mostly involving DIY projects. Any opinions or advice is appreciated. As an example, the post by busdaddy tells what his opinion is and is based on experience. Cool, I love hearing what you all have to say.

Well then OK, your poll doesn't let me click on more than one item.

Most of the time once the body shop is done with you there isn't enough stretch left in your sphincter to fix the rest of the issues and you decide to live with them for now, so you end up with a shiny car with marginal brakes/suspension/transmission and electrical, it looks nice but still needs alot of unseen work.

Of course this all hinges upon what you can do yourself or how fat your wallet is if someone else is doing it.

In my case it would be the interior. I finished the resto on my 69 beetle 4 years ago and still need to replace the headliner.  :-[

Tranny and interior, on the average home built car.
why, Because how many tranny parts do you own? or tools?
most just find a worker and detail it and slap it in.
and interior just due to the lack of quaility interiors around, in not talking tmi here.
My 2 cents.
