H4 headlight conversion, opinions wanted
« on: November 28, 2011, 02:59:53 PM »
I'm looking at upgrading my crappy sealed beams to hella h4's so i can actually see where i'm going, would appreciate any feedback from people who have done this conversion, its for a splitty, did you buy whole new units or just some conversion parts, and if so any idea where does best price?

Thanks in advance

It is well worth it!
You will buy whole new bulbs to replace your sealed beams.  Make sure you buy the type that have removable H4 elements from the bulb/reflector.
Hella is an excellent choice.  They are just as good as the NLA Bosch.  If you're on a budget, the Made in India Auto-Pal are still way better than your old sealed beams.

Definitely do it.

First thing I do to any sealed-beam car I buy...even before I plate them.

Adding a new, dedicated 12ga or thicker wire from the starter battery terminal (big inline fuse at starter end) to a relay between the headlight switch and highbeam relay (or floor switch depending on year) is time well spent too, no need to add extra load to a tired old electrical system.
