Need to borrow: a pressure plate.
« on: September 02, 2011, 12:46:32 PM »
My pressure plate collapsed right before the GCVW and due to some weird things going on during the replacement, I wasn't able to take the bus to the show with me. :( Now I've kinda ran into a wall as to what can be causing apparent binding of things in the clutch department as everything seems to check out and everything is brand new. More info here:
http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=476955

Anyway, I need to rule out the brand new pressure plate acting funky so I was wondering if anybody had a used 200mm pressure plate I could borrow to install and try. It would be much appreciated. :)

i had a brick wall kinda clutch problem when i first got the baja together, all brand new parts.
ended up being my bugpack clutch disk, the ceramic pads were 2 thick, bought a KEP disk and everything worked perfect, the bugpack disk would not work at all..

something to look at if you think it could be related to your problem

Nah, not the disc unfortunately, I've had two in there.

Was it a Chinese pressure plate? I have seen 2 of those POS fail outta the box.
I really wish CIP would stop offering so much shit to people. ::)

Yes I believe so.  ::)
It's this one. http://www.cip1.ca/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=VWC%2D211%2D141%2D025%2DBJ
They have another one that's only 20 bucks more but it did no show up in search. I saw it later. Lack of attention to detail on that site already cost me one extra trip to Langley. A simple clutch job has been a clusterfuck so far. And now I can't finish it because my leg is still screwed from the crash last Monday.  >:(

OE quality!  ::)
Take it out and throw it back at CIP. The ones I have come across had the exact symptom you are experiencing.
Put a Sachs pressure plate in there and enjoy your bus again.

Yeah, "OE quality"! violent-smiley-007
That's what I'm planning to do.

I had a feeling that's what it was. So did Busdaddy. But sometimes some of samba bay window forum guys theorize way way too much.

Steve, you've got an IM. I was inquiring about some other parts I need to get. As for the pressure plate, I think I'm gonna order a new Sachs one and "risk" it. Then return the "old new" one.

Thanks for the offer James. I ordered a new Sachs one last night, I'm just gonna return the other one, good or not. Hopefully my leg feels good enough on the weekend or early next week to put it in and see if that's indeed where the problem is.
