Finally, I get my project car
« on: August 03, 2011, 11:11:35 AM »
Hey there just thought I'd post 'cause I'm excited.
35 years ago my '68 beetle, with a brand new engine, was destroyed by a 5 ton truck that ran a red light. Fortunately my bug and I were there to stop it. Unfortunately my little bug became a little narrower. Now after all these decades I'm finally getting a 1972 std beetle to rebuild delivered today. That '68 saved my life so I'm going to save the life of this '72. I'm on disablity so a severe lack of $$$ means it'll be a long long time before she hits the road again and I'll love every minute of it. At least I have the skills, training and experience to do it right. It's gonna be a thing of beauty.

 ;D

Does it run?  If so, bring it to the big show at the end of the month before you tear it apart.

I wish I could come, but this poor thing is a mess!! I actally found some metal. Wrong RF quarter (no gas filler), no front cowl  wtf, and I've only looked at it for about 15 minutes. I thought swing axle was wrong, but I guess some Canadian bugs still had 'em. I do have extra glass though. Oh my I have a HUGE job ahead of me. Looking forward to it.

I checked into the swing axle and you're right. The US only had IRS, we had both at that time.
Pics coming soon
