GCVWS 2011 who's coming out racing Friday night?
« on: July 12, 2011, 07:45:51 AM »
This year we will be giving away cash payouts for quick ET, best wheel stand, most consistent, etc.... (there will be a chance for everyone to win someting)
So the question is, Who will be out this year and in what?

The street legals are for everyone so we want to see the Strictly German and Zundefolge out there in force (as well as anyone who wants to have some fun)!
The DVKK will be out with our cars, some fast some not so fast. We hope to some of our USA friends show up with some quick cars, Spread the word! We want to kick off the weekend right!

If you have a stock engine be sure to sign up for the SMC (stock motor challenge)

The DVKK is actually going to race this year?  My car won't be ready so I'm out,  I get to be a spectator this year.

as the new kid on the block I am hoping to be there.  The car is in the shop but not yet getting any massage work done to her.  I am hoping that they can have it ready for me at the beginning of Aug.  Then a few late nights and it should be ready.  I would like to license before so I can run it without keeping my fingers crossed that the track Nazi's don't get me.

I'm going for sure if I can pass tech. Never raced before. Hoping to crack 30sec. What sort of shit would stop me from running? Do I need a helmut?

If you have a slow car you don't need a helmet (nor a German guy named Helmut).

Things they look for are excessive length of rubber hose for fuel lines.  You have to use hard line as much as you can, keeping the rubber to be a connecting piece only.

If you have hubcaps, you must remove them.
If you have any missing lug bolts, you'll be out.
They'll also ask you if the battery is clamped down.  If you are missing the stock clamp, get one.
You have to remove all the junk you have in the car.

SMC perhaps... ;)

http://www.airspeedparts.com/forums/index.php?topic=19340.0

and to add to what bruce has posted regarding passing tech...from my experience if you say that it's your first time and you've got a stock motor and are hoping to run around the 20 second mark, they wont spend alot of time checking out the car. but as with most things and especially when racing, it is best to be prepared and safety rules all!

-bring your DL & registration to tech with you.
-wear long pants/jeans (mandatory) to tech and bring along a long sleeve shirt just in case. also...shoes (closed toe) no sandals.
-lights, horn, brakes, all glass intact (no cracks or big chips)
-seat belt. must have. i have a lap belt and pass tech ok.
-no glass or plastic fuel filters. allthough i run a plastic filter after the gas tank before the line goes into the tunnel (away from heat & ignition & rotating/moving components and out of site), i've never had an issue with tech inspection. some people run a plastic filter along side the trans where the fuel line comes out of the tunnel at the back & before it goes through the shround to the pump. whatever you do, use new approved soft lines & new hose clamps, check often, and dont put a plastic fuel filter in your engine bay!
-battery hold down. i have one and highly recomend using one, allthough after 5 years i've never lifted my back seat to show the tech inspector that it's there.
-check out the 2 links below for more rules & regs...

most of all...come prepared, be safe and have FUN!!! let us know if you have any other questions and we'll get you through it so you can make it out!!

I'm down for some SMC. Where do I sign up? Couldn't find it on the website. Looks like I'm postponing the 1835 install until Sept.

My fire breathing 1200cc does have a slight push rod tube leak. Will this be a deal breaker?

Anyone have a battery hold down strap or will my bungy cord hold down pass?

If you know its going to leak oil onto the track then I would suggest not taking your car down!  Out of respect for other high HP cars that rely on good traction to avoid getting into the wall, I'd say fix the oil leak.  However many people don't care and tech might not either!

Just my suggestion.

My brother will be there in his 54 and I'll be racing my water pumper as I haven't sold it yet or found a nice aircooled!

I was passing thru new west, saw you around the Justice Institute.

My suggestion to you is that you wipe down tubes as best you can and keep them clean between runs, do your best to minimize the mess, the track people are good they spot leaks and will let you know.

Thats what I'll do then. Don't really want to put much time/effort into this engine if I'm just going to replace it shortly. That being said it runs really well. (knock on wood)

Took the kids to IHOP in New West for brunch. MMMMMM. Biscuits and gravy.

As long as I can get a subframe in my waterpumper by then I will unleash the 5 cylinder of fury...

all you gotta do is show up, make a pass (or multiple passes), keep your time slips on hand, find me (tall, skinny, funny looking white dude driving the black 64 sunroof beetle) & we'll record your times!! i'll be easy to find and around the pits & on the track all night.

and like stephan & chris said...be safe, fix it or clean it, monitor it, and keep it clean to respect the other racers and the track, and you should be fine.

after 2 years today at 2 pm the cover came off.
the " WOK " is back

its been 2 long years but its rolling again .
so if you are feeling lucky or just feel like taking a beating stage next to the " WOK " at mission raceway on August 26th ,ask silas you never know what will happen.

-- fun note : we are lucky this year as a test and tune is held on the same day as the DVKK " strip show" and like many this will be my first chance to run the car with its changes ,god knows i need some testing time to get it all sorted out.
my plan is to spend the whole day and evenning at the track and hope some others will be doing the same .
-- pre registration starts on August 15th at the mission raceway site for the test and tune for the 26th so set your alarms for 12:05 am August 15th and
follow this link and preregister for the test and tune .
http://www.missionraceway.com/contact

hope to see everyone there .

Well I have a TON of shit on my plate to get done before I make it down, but I'm hoping to make it for the drags etc. Just built myself a new engine and would love to give 'er shit at the track... assuming she'll make it home again!  lol_hitting

the Extractor Racing Beetle is now on the table getting some minor surgery.  She should be back home by neck week ready for some more work.  It is going to be tight but my fingers are crossed!

figured i best give a update as i dont want anyone to be left out of the test and tune on the 26th .
a while back i e-mailed a question to mission raceway about what e-mail address is to be used for test and tune registration .
i got this reply back

rentals@missionraceway.com

so when in doubt send a e-mail to both on the 15th .
if someone know for sure please post the correct info.
