I am interested in the transmission if you are local to me and if it has axles.  I live in north delta.  Thanks. Ted.

So this is how we greet new members. They may not be as knowledgable as you but give the new people a chance. I know this guy and he would help all of us out. He is doing this for his wife and vw as really not his thing but he's doing a great job. So maybe next time be a little more nicer when replying to others posts!!!

Keeping on topic here, according to some old info, the real term "Crashbox" would only refer to a pre52 transmission, as a January 52 beetle transmission had 3 synchro gears (2nd, 3rd, 4th) which replaced the old crash box. This site also shows a fully synchromesh transmission only being added in 1961 models... So a 57 would not likely have a first gear synchro. Bruce?

(although not 100% accurate, it gives the general idea)

You know I read the responses to the ad and smile. All this for a $20 transmission, next time I will put it on craigslist to not upset the people pushing the applecart  with my vw ignorance.
seriously ...... just remove the post or move on people, as your luck would have , I have nothing else to sell cheap or give away for free.   8)

Busdaddy meant your friend no harm. The humor is that your friend was being really honest in reporting that there was a problem with first gear...but that is actually how it is supposed to be functioning. He wasn't insulting your friend. I see the humor in it too. He wasn't knocking him for not being knowledgable. kgilderdale seems like a good honest guy.....and now that he knows the tranny is OK and should ask more $$ for it ;)

A lot of us on here know Busdaddy, and know that he was not being rude, insulting, or "slam"ming newcomers. I also reallize you too are just defending your friend which means you are probably a good guy as well ;D.

So it's been over a week....has the tranny already gone to the dump? lol_hitting

WoW!, I haven't looked at this for a while, I pointed out what I thought was a somewhat humorous contradictory typo either to elicit some clarification from the OP or cause potential buyers to do a little research about the part, I never meant to "slam" anyone. Sorry if anyone got bent out of shape here, it wasn't my intention.

Can we all still be friends?
