For my first semester as I am still in high school I had signed up for a mechanics co-op which is all auto shop all day. I was able to get my car in the shop and I have been working on it every day, what an awesome program. I have been able to do allot of work on it. I have been able to get all of the metal work done on the car except for a little bit on the rear apron and welding up the quarter panels. I also started striping the paint off and prepping the metal for paint. I also found out that my doors have allot of rust so I ended up buying new ones

Since the last post I have gotten my car back home where the work continues
Last weekend me and my dad went to what is now called icing on the car but was Canadian auto restoration to do some sand blasting on the car
Luckily their weren't to many surprises just a few spots in the doors but no big deal

Actually both are correct, if I recall correctly it is dependent on whether or not the persons referred to are subjects or objects of the statement.

Looking good Kevin, it is awesome that you get to use the shop class for time to work on your car!

Right on bud! Damn nice work for a young buck!! Grade 11 was when my automotive interests really took off....I built a hot rod GTI in shop class grade 11-12....There were a couple of us that actually worked on our cars, most other kids were too busy installing hot stereos and filling back pockets of coveralls with grease guns when kids weren't paying attention

Ya the auto shop helped me get a lot of work done on the car which is nice
Weirdly enough there are only 2 others in my class who own their own cars, but I think I’m the only one fixing it to this extent. They all say I’m crazy but whatever it’s all fun

Quick update on the car, I was able to weld up the new bumper bracket sections last weekend, and it came out better than I had expected. There is so much space to work around the area I was able to really hammer weld and flatten my welds out while it was still hot instead of reaching around doorposts and what not

Been doing lots of work on the '60, specifically on the rear apron
my dad has had an old spot welder for years but we never used it because it had no plug, so my Opa helped me wire it up and to my surprise it worked, it worked very well in my case because the welding ends are not in a fixed I will add a picture or two instead of explaining it. So the rear apron is fully welded on after playing with the location of the deck lid and apron to get it latching properly. And now the engine seal shelves are getting welded in after getting my engine in it
Each step is a step toward paint, getting close now

here are the ends, it can get a little tricky lining up the ends but handy for getting lots of weird places

I'm really happy with the way the whole rear end ended up

the spot welder actually went through my weld through primer

Ok, so lots more work done on the bug
I had to make some C channel for the engine seal tin on the apron, I ended up doing that at school and it turned out very well, almost looks factory

I finished spot welding to new engine seal trays

After I got my engine in I threw my new fenders on and get the tail lights on, it’s really starting to look like something

After I got it all on I noticed that my apron had more of a curve then my fenders did, it was unacceptable so out came the tin snips and torches

Turned out pretty nice

It definitely fits much nicer

Then after looking at the back of my car for so long I noticed the tail lights looked funny, turns out that the driver side was 1/2 inch higher than the passenger so I welded the old holes and made new ones to imitate the other side
Now it is better

After that my dad and I reamed my door hinges for the pins
These pieces are 1 thousandth over the pin size

And the door is 1 thousandth under

Got the doors on today and it looks really good

Right on thanks man, its not overly tough but is time consuming! Dont get too cranked on your door gaps quite yet....they will move around lots when you start loading the glass and other guts into the doors! I was really suprized how much movement you get when tightening the body to pan....you can fine tune your gaps by playing with the thickness of pads on body to pan mounts and the sequence you tighten them and the heater channel bolts down.

My dad and I hammer welded the 1/4 panels and got them nice and straight, I also finished the mock up of the car last weekend
just a few last things here and their and its ready the get some colour

this weekend was a thrash to get some paint on the underside of the car, thanks dad for spending your whole weekend in the garage with me, couldn't of done it with out you
