Auto-x at Pitt Meadows, Slush Series
« on: October 25, 2010, 01:28:29 PM »
Batan , there is a local autox ?  W 5 ?  tell us about it!!

Driving pad at Pitt Meadows airport. It's Slush Series that happens during winter, hence the name, organized by UBCSCC. I've done the 07-08 season and I'm doing this year's. These pictures are from 3 years ago. We just did the Slush1 yesterday and Slush2 is on November 28th. I'm the black mk2 below.

I'm thinking this looks like a blast!  I've heard that there was no slalom or auto x left in the lower mainland. Don't believe everything you hear I guess.  Wow ! UBC sports car club !  Last I heard of them was in the 80's  when they had events on campus. Used to love to see a certain yellow Kyote buggy powered by a porsche super 90 motor run , FTD every time.......hmmmm
So is this the kind of thing anybody off the street could just join in on for the day or....?

That was John Hafner's buggy.  I believe John is still racing, but i could be wrong.  He is in his late 60's now.  That super 90 motor ended up in my 1966 beetle when I first got my drivers license.  I used to rip around burnaby with it.

There is some good local autocross.  UBC sports car club is one or vcmc.  www.vcmc.ca

Ya I know!!!
I should have bought that motor from from John when I was buying back the three peace BBS wheels and slicks and he offered it to my for less than half the price I ended up paying for it. Could have, should have we have all been there at one point. It's all back together now.
Stephan I havent started that motor! It better run. Ha ha
I've looked into these clubs in the past, and I'll I ever find is old results of events, I'll look again.
Thanks

So guys, anybody interested? It would be awesome to have some a/c crowd there. I find the crowd to be all over the place when it comes to cars and ages.

I'll attest to the fact that autocross in the lower mainland is going very strong!!  :D I've been racing at Pitt Meadows for the last 2 seasons (black Caliber SRT4 until the bug motor is tuned!!  :o ) There is the 2 clubs mentioned, which are great clubs and host excellent events. The VCMC forum site is http://www.vcmc.ca/forum/forum.php . Their events page is honestly a little hard to navigate but any new events are posted for signup under the Racing Events thread part way down the main forum page. This club is done for the season this year though. An excellent calender of events is found on the UBC site. Their forum and events pages are easily accessed from their main homepage  http://www.ubcscc.com . They like to list events for  pretty much anything that happens at Pitt Meadows, as well as a lot of Mission road course events. I've been a member of both clubs the past 2 seasons and it's been great. The other club I've attended events for is the Porsche club. http://www.pca-cwr.org . They are definantly a smaller club overall and may not have the event technology (timing, gear etc) as some of the other local clubs, but they can host just as good of an event as the other guys, if not better becuase there are fewer cars making for more runs!
It's awesome to see that there is interest in autocross locally. I hope to see some of you guys/gals out on the course sometime, hopefully in the Musl-Bug!  ;D

Thanks for the great info, I'd like to get the old buggy out next year.

The motor ran great and is in almost the same spec that is used to be when John raced it.  The compression was dropped to 9.0:1 or 9.5:1 for me to run it on pump gas.  I believe it was around the 13:1 or 14:1 mark before.

I'm currently going to UBC and joined the club a couple weeks back. I plan on racing my buggy but won't race t'ill the summer (weather) and I still have tons of work left to do before I can even think about racing including front end rebuild, wheels, tightening/adjusting/tunning etc...
Was planning on spectating the last race but it was raining  :(
Can't wait though!
