I think I'd be wearing a parachute if I went up there.

When he got to the top, he wasn't even holding on before he clicked himself in!  I'm thinking a parachute would be cumbersome, but I'd want to wear one too!

At one point in the vid he says "there is no quick way down" I disagree! it would probably take about 4 seconds!

Notice the pegs they stand/climb on?? are they just carriage bolts, spot welded to some small brackets :o

There not Carriage bolts .It's round stock welded to the side .I've had to climb 210 -250 feet up hand ladders in the refiners /pulp mills it's not easy carrying your tools.  Going that height is a days work on it's own! The Sway facto must be huge! A tower I climbed approx 14 feet diameter @ bottom and 200 feet tall swayed 3- 4 feet either way fun when windy just don't be hung over!

The reality of working at heights is a fall from 20 ft has the same result as a fall from 1500 ft.

When I was younger I did some ironworking in Whistler. Some days we had to sweep snow off the beams before we could walk them. About 60 ft. High enough if you live by rule #1 above.

Not a chance I could do that know.

How do you figure?  From 20', you're in the hospital.  From 1500, you're in the morgue.

You have about as good a chance of surviving a 1500' fall as compared to 20' fall. Its not the fall, its the stop.
I never even second guess whether or not I wear my fall restraints at work, I want to come home.

I agree with Bruce, if you need to justify it further look at this:

Simple physics folks.
It only takes about 15 to 20 feet to reach maximum velocity. In the neighborhood of 110 mph.
Even at 1500 feet that is as fast as you will fall.

I'd bet that the people jumping from the World Trade Center would have rather jumped 20 ft then a hundred stories.

You're not even close.
Applying some simple high school physics says the terminal velocity of an object dropped from 20 feet is only 24.47 miles per hour.
Mirko's link proves it.

Maybe I should just edit my post to 60ft.

Maybe we need a volunteer to be dropped on his head at 24.47 mph.

Better.  At an impact speed of 42.4mph, you might actually die.
