Not every race is fun
« on: July 21, 2010, 09:05:10 AM »
Got the rebuilt tranny in late on Saturday, and figured I would go test it out at the Kelowna track on Sunday.  I re-used my warped pressure plate and a new 4 puck.  1 pass is all I did, clutch did not hook at all.  fuel regulator diaphram cracked and dumped fuel all over and put a stop to my day pretty quick.  That was it,  car went back on the trailer.  Funny comment from the anouncer at the end.

Some excitement I had was watching fuel dump all over my hot engine and expecting a fire at the end of the track.

So the question I ask is why did you run a warped pressure plate? Now you have to take it all apart again....

I was wondering the same thing!

Good thing you didn't have a fire.  That would have been expensive!

I figured it would bed in after abit, only problem is that I never ran after that.  That is the same plate I had the last race and ran the 11.2, that clutch disk was just slipping, so I  threw in a new 4 puck and figured it will taper the same too, just didn't know how long that takes cause I have never have done that before, allways had a new plate to go in.  Actually that is not true, at mission when my disk was slipping, Shaun and I swapped the disk only, and still ran the 11.9 run after that.  That was also the same pressure plate.

Engine came out last night, and I resurfaced the pressure plate flat again to avoid the having to wait till it beds in again, all is good.

The could have been fire definitly had me nervous for awhile.  The one thing I did wrong,  was using my hands as a scoop to catch the fuel coming off my carb, and throwing it away from the engine so it wouldn't get more onto everything.  Getting towed back to the pit I couldn't believe how stupid that was of me to use my hands as a scoop, if it did catch on fire, I have gas all over both hands and could have been burned bad.
