Mahle Lifters?!?!
« on: April 24, 2004, 01:14:25 AM »
hey guys...i was just about to seal the cases together on the bug re-build and i came into a bit of a problem. when i mated the case halves the liters were pinching the cam. i compared how they sat and looked in the case and they don't seem to sit down like the ones that i pulled out did (it's like they aren't machined all the way to the bottom). i'm installing a 110 cam and i bought stock lifters. do i need a special type of lifters? i would have assumed that these lifters would seat the same since they are \"stock\" lifters. any suggestions? thanks

sorry , looks like you just learned the differance between being a engine assembler and a engine builder.
i'm sure by now you are frustrated enough , but i'm glad too see you doing it yourself !!!so lets get this block together  .I WILL ONLY STICK TOO YOUR LIFTER QUESTION AS I HAVE NO WAY OF KNOWING ABOUT THE REST OF THE ENGINE ASSEMBLEY .if i remember those lifters may have a larger radious that will not allow them too seat fully into the case lifter bores.since the motor is obviously still apart take this time too check it right . i'm not sure what measuring tools you have so lets assume nothing.take one case half and drop a lifter into each of the 4 holes.should drop in easy and rotate fully in each bore with no binding.install cam bearings.drop in cam and rotate ,you will need too be able too slide a match cover between the lifter head and the cam lobe [highest point] check them all and move lifters around too differant spots if needed. if this doesn't get you going you will need too either clearance the case at the lifter bosses or get a differant lifter with a thinner head and a smaller radious.do both cases this way.if it checks out lube everthing up and go for it
good luck.
