MSD installation input

I am upgrading to a full MSD set up (dist, 6al, coil & wires). I know that it's a fairly straight forward installation, but I was wondering if any of the people on here using such a set up might have some helpful tips or hints for the installation/timing?

Also, would a plug gap of 0.040" be a good starting point? Engine: 2276, 8.5:1 cr

keep an extra rotor and cap in the car....

I ve read this post a few times thinking..YEAH...one day I ll get me a spare rotor.  had to leave her on campus yesterday....

went to turn the key....absolutly nothing..no clicking noise...nothing.  so quiet I bet you could have heard my heart sink..lol.

something that just caught my attension relating to msd and falure.
i would avoid the msd distributer and use a mallory unilite or a pertronics .
because if the msd box fails you can wire either of the above distributers directly to the coil bypassing the failed msd box
also if you are burning rotor tips off you need to decrease the gap of the plug
street use run a ngk 7 at 34  ,NA drag run a ngk 8 at 24-28 and for the nitrous guys run a ngk 9
