something to torture bus lovers
« on: December 16, 2009, 10:06:04 PM »
some of you may know the 60 van i'm talking about here in the okanagan

i saw it back in 95 myself, and its the real deal. been on blocks in a barn since 1961, has the whopping 2000 miles, factory jailbars original tires, probably original oil too. the guy was given the thing from his grandfather, and has been sitting since. in the wheel wells it still has shiny paint cause it never even saw a winter.

don't ask details, i won't tell who owns it or where it is. and no, its not for sale for any price. this guy knows what  hes got.
and no, i can't get you pics.

but please share any of your tales of "whoah!"  (pun intended)

I know it's been said, many times, many ways.....

No pics or it didn't happen! I've hear of, and chased many illusive vehicles and most times they don't exist!

I don't question the one you're talking about is probably there, and it's always nice to dream about that one that went home to its new owners from the showroom and for some reason didn't get driven.

In reality, if someone is doing it for an investment, you'd have gotten a lot better return in the markets or real estate since the 60's! ;)

i know i should post pics, but i'm not about to knock on the guys door and ask for permission just because hes got something cool.

as for why its there, his grandfather bought it, then died shortly after and left it to the current owner who was about 12 or 13. by the time he was old enough to drive it, he was driving something he considered "cooler" and wouldn't sell it for obvious sentimental reasons. and by the time it was ready to claim collector status, he wouldn't drive it cause it was too low mileage and didn't want it to go up.

its not all roses though, the owner brushed on purple paint on the rear door to make it "cool" (it was the mid 60's), and he said his dad slammed the brakes on doing the rest of the van .

I do believe it, I have seen and bought a few of those stories.

I know a fellow in mission who has a split he bought in 59, Hates vw poeple, hates everything but that car. I stopped by once when he had a barn door open, and he fricken hated me being there, told me about how much he hated vw poeple, and all they do is steal things. still sitting, Im waiting for him to die.

I remember going to puds autowrecking and as you drove down the hill into the town, you saw like 20 buses and bugs, get to the door, nope, Don't have vw's here............I look behind him thru the window and im like "what about that 58 bus"...He looks at me straight in the eye.."Nope, none"

Two minutes later, Uncle Lester and Dad walk in......Blah Blah blah, laughing and talking, All along the guy hated Hippie's and did not trust me, but loved them......Jerk.

Lots of secrets still around, Lots of bullshit too.
