ok i am trying to put some better fuel lines on my new motor , was wondering if there is a trick on how to get the fuel line into the fitting, with out damaging the end of the fuel line ..... any help would be much appreciated.... steve

I can't say I've ever heard of Russell fittings, but if you are referring to Aeroquip fittings you can't assemble them reliably without mandrels.

before you cut wrap the hose with masking tape.  Make your cut with a cut off wheel.  Lube the fitting.  Place the "nut" over the hose.  Take the tape off and slide the hose over the fitting turning as you go.  Make sure to seat the hose all the way to the end.  Then just spin the "nut" back on.  Yes it helps to use the manufacturers vise tool but I have seen many be made without them and the work fine.

When I did all mine I bought a good set of cable cutters....not tin snip or metal shears....cable cutters! Very clean cut and easy to put the line in.

I wrap the hose in aluminum tape to prevent fraying. Then use a cut off wheel. I then remove the tape and lube the hose end with petrolatum. I put the piece that the hose goes into in a socket with ratchet for better support. A couple twists of the hose and it should bottem out. Thread the nut piece in and you're done. This works well for me. The key is to minimize the amount of fraying.
