Bus glass...

I'm wondering what do local shops charge for bus windshields, anybody has any recommendations? I need to replace the seal on mine and I'm suspecting it's the original seal and windshield, so there's some scoring and a couple of chips... which also might fail the OPP inspection. So, I'm thinking I should maybe replace the windshield while at it...

The old old seal...(that's a hair on the paint, not a crack). Even though this bus is pretty damn rust free, I'm kinda afraid to see what's underneath the seal:




Anybody with a riviera slider? I need this one as it's cracked, driver's side front half:

Don't show up with the crack in the slider window, they'll make you change all the slider windows.  That's because the cracked window is neither tempered nor laminated, so they are illegal.

Maybe I can just take that part of the window out for the inspection. LOL

Yep, straight glass is a big no-no in a vehicle.  So much that just having it isn't the only violation.  If you took a pattern into a glass shop, it is illegal for them to make it for you.  It is illegal for them to sell it to you.  It is illegal for anyone to install it.

I know. My "really?" was directed towards the sliders being straight glass. Never occured to me it could be normal glass so I never paid attention to the crack to see if it's straight or not. You sure? Looking at the picture, both pieces have the stamp etched in it in the upper left corners, which kinda makes me thing it's automotive glass:

Ok, I checked and those two little etches say "safety glass" right on them. I don't know which sliders you were talking about but these are real automotive glass. Come to think of it, I would have noticed straight glass first time I touched them.

Tempered glass doesn't crack like that.  It just crumbles into a million little pebbles.
Your windows could be legal, if they are laminated.  A laminated window can crack like that.  But it is unusual for laminated glass to be used on the side of a vehicle.

They are laminated as I can see them delaminating around some edges. I see what you're saying, but windshields are tempered glass and they crack from stone chips regardless.
Either way, these should be fine... other then I still don't know if they'd pass cracked.

Well Bruce is definetly a stickler for details, I've imported  12+ vintage cars in the last 5 years and never ever had them check the glass, as long as the windshield isn't cracked or chipped.  In fact it's allowed to be chipped but only on the pass side.  The only thing they are really checking close is the 15 year old Japanese vans and cars that are popping up everywhere!

No, front windshields are never tempered.  Think about the rock that caused that bull's eye you've got.  If the front window was tempered, that rock would have taken the whole window out into a million tiny bits.  Front windows are always laminated.
You won't pass with your front window.  You may get it by the provincial inspection, but not ICBC.  They are very sticky about cars coming into BC with bad windows because they don't want to pay for damage that happened outside of BC.
You also will not pass with the cracked side slider.  Can you take it out easy?  If so, take it to any auto glass shop.  They'll be able to cut a new one from laminated glass.

Yes, I think I can take that piece out. Now, I'm not sure I understand what you mean by provincial inspection vs. ICBC?
I will be getting a new windshield even before the provincial inspection though.
