Where Were All You Girls?

First street drags of the season and not one of you p@#$ys showed up!  Brian, your car looked fairly complete, where was it???

Oh well, I can hereby lay claim to the fastest documented air cooled VW of the year in all of the GVRD.  All you other guys are just talking smack!

The only other rear engine car there was a Renault Gordini.  I never heard of them before.  Its an inline 4 with Beetle style swing axle transaxle.  Its got a factory camber compensator (now we know where EMPI got the idea).  When the guy told me it had a 1300cc engine, I thought maybe 22-24 second times, but no.  He was spanking Preludes and other Ricers with hi 16s.  He did this by reving it to 8000 rpm.  Under the deck lid was a pair of 40 DCOE Webers.

Here's what they look like:

Paul is a customer of ours, and the biggest Gordini freak I've ever heard of. This guy can teach classes in how to be passionate about cars.

So, ahem, Bruce...

Way to represent Bruce! Most of us are still building/repairing so it will be awhile before we dominate the field, soon though, very soon :)

I don't have to worry about you James knocking me off the list.  It'll be eons before you are done.  If Shane is gonna be there next street drags, he could probably take top spot in two gears.  BTW, the next street night is this Friday.  And every Friday in Apr!

Hi 14s, as usual.  Unfortunately my super light flywheel is no good with slicks.  Dumping the clutch at 6k made it bog after it almost yanked the wheels.  60' times were slower than expected even though it felt better off the line.  Then on one pass I watched the 60' marker.  I can't make it there in first like I used to, so the shifting is what makes the 60' time higher than expected.

Oh ya, I should say that I have super low gears now.  The stock ratio 3.88 with .82 4th gearbox is out, in is a 4.62 R&P with stock 1-2, and factory close ratio 1.36/1.04 3rd/4th.  Highway cruising is limited to 55mph.

One of the faster stock cars there was a late model Merc 2dr coupe, V8 mit Kompresser.  On the stock tires with no mods at all  to the car, he ran 13.05@115mph.  I had him to the 330' mark, but then it was just tail lights after that.  I don't know if he made a 12 after that.

I saw buses race at Seattle several years ago, and I gotta say, it's a lot like watching a freeway on-ramp. 27-30 seconds, some of 'em.
'Course, that's part of the fun of driving a 50hp Volkswagen. I race people all the time to and from work - they just don't know I'm doing it.  ;)

Hmmm, there were less than 10 of us in the SC class that could do a 14 or better.  Were your friends perhaps extolling the virtues of those 17 sec Honduhs?

Hans, Its from a VW Hormiga.  Its like a single cab but way ugly.  Its a fwd urban delivery vehicle with the IRS trans up front.  The shifter is bolted right on the nosecone.  The SP 1600 Type 1 engine sits under the cab behind your butt, under the deck.  Since it was for in town delivery it came with super stiff gears and factory close 3rd and 4th.
I picked up this trans in a junk yard in Mexico a couple years back.
