Projects, what have you been up to?
« on: May 13, 2009, 07:58:04 PM »
I hear a few ASF members have been busy working on new projects and refreshing a few older ones.  I know of a nice Green Zwitter thats only a few days away from hitting the street. A Blue 67 getting some major detail work and my own Oval may even see the light of day once the trans is back in place.

I am constantly planning and wishing.

For the most, collecting parts. I have my 914 2L wheels and tires for the rear. The plan is that at some point the type 3 rear brakes will go in and these wheels will fit properly. I am planning a 3" narrowed adjustable beam on front to be fitted with disk brakes and the same wheels.

It will finally look like my own and not someone elses build ill get some pics up asap , maybe after the weekend.

My big push was getting the '69 painted for the Spring Thaw...I kinda want a break now, but I do have most of a new motor waiting assembly.

Hmmm...

I have my 914 2L wheels and tires for the rear..... I am planning a 3" narrowed adjustable beam ....
With those wheels, you need a stock width beam.  Have a look at Geevy's new convert with those wheels.

For my blue '70:
Put in an up/down adjustable beam with disc brakes and drop spindles. This should allow me to drop for now and raise up later if I ever want to go for Collector plates. Also installed pop-out quarter windows.

Waiting for Dannyboy to return so I can get my 2275 built for the notch. Other than that a CSP shifter and tune up.

Been busy on my dad's car. Hoping to have it ready so he can take it to Volksfest.

As far as projects, where do I start. I have to rebuild the ghia motor which should be happening soon. A few improvements are in order so we will see how that goes. Im waiting for my bodyman to finish up the Fiat. Motor is ready and some wiring and hopefully a few test and tunes and Ill be ready for the GCVW. My fingers are crossed. But you know those bodyman........... ;)

Still working on my oval. Should see the pavement just in time for winter so it can sit in the garage. :D ::)
Working on assembling the drivetrain for it right now, and putting on all the freshy powdercoated and polished bits and pieces.

Now that I'm back from 3 weeks in Ireland, I can get back to the body work on my Ghia. I also need to pull the motor on my beetle and try to find an oil leak (I think it's the oil cooler).

What have we been up to ???  ;D

I've been making a few changes to my 56 beetle.
I removed the header and hideaway exhaust, and refinished and installed a Eurosport large two tip muffler that Egspot gave me. It gave me back a "close to stock" look that I wanted. Personally I would rather not have a big pipe hanging out the back... Also it gave me another 3 or 4 inches of ground clearance, so I dropped the rear end another couple of inches. There is less of a rake now which I am happy with.

I was not concerned with keeping the car quiet as I have no real neighbors to speak of so I am happy with the "harleyesque" sound that the Engle 110 and the glasspack give me. ;)

A while back I had some issues with my Unilite distributor and Mallory oil filed coil... I sent them back to Mallory and they rebuilt and tested the distributor, put a new optical sensor in it etc. They exchanged my Mallory Oil filled coil (which the tech told me they are having issues with) with a Mallory Promaster E-series Coil free of charge. (I do have to say that Mallory
