VW Classic 2009, Irvine California
« on: March 06, 2009, 07:10:42 PM »
anyone from vancouver planning on making the trip to the classic this year? a few of us from victoria are planning to drive down, and some guys were meeting from the states are flying down. the more the marrier, for those interested in driving looks like were planning on leaving tuesday after work. (the 9th?) catch the 6 or 7 ferry to vancouver off the island. If your going post here, or on the victoria vw club site we have a thread.

Will be towing a beetle... I have to figure out the tow vehicle first but as of now was planning to leave Tues morn from Tsawwassen, so might be able to hop into your caravan at some point.

I'm considering it. Just waiting on my exam schedule.
If more power is better. Then too much is just enough.
Why do it once when you can do it thrice?

I'm flying down.. Do you stay near Irvine?
Anybody have room to bring a full length bus rack back? I'll chip in for some gas money.

If anyone is driving down and could pick up some truck hoops off DG (I would pay for them in advance) I will pitch in for some gas money too.

so were under 6 weeks or so away from the classic, whos still planning on going? I have changed my plans and will not be taking my dc now, but my '61 beetle instead. There has been talk of trailering or partcial trailering from the vvwc crew. Not sure, still gettin the car ready for a full drive down there, but that may change depending on how everyone else is getting down. for those who have driven in L.A. with a lowered aircooled, are the roads really really bad? I've done the kelley park trip, but not beyond san jose in an aircooled vw, another 8? hours and roads gettin worse from what i hear?...

I say yes! They are that bad. Depends on how low the car is for sure.

The worst part I used to see in the past was I5 south of Sacramento.  You can avoid it by going over to the 99.  Another bad thing about the 5 between Bakersfield and Sac is the lack of gas stations.  The ones there know this and charge a pretty premium vs. anywhere else in CA.  Not so on the 99.

Didn't really notice it on the beetleball trip...but I'm not slammed low.

as it sits now for the victoria crew it looks like were taking 2 cars, one watercooled, and one aircooled on a trailor behind a truck. (probbaly unload the aircooled somewhere in california)leaving tuesday night (catch a ferry to vancouver between 6 and 9) and be back home sometime tuesday.
