Big parts score - 56k avoid
« on: January 08, 2009, 12:30:24 AM »
A few months back, while preparing for the Beetleball, I was in Lordco ordering parts for the '69. After telling my guy the year and parts I needed another customer turned to me and asked "do you need anything else for that '69?". Turns out he had a shed full of VW parts from his racing days. There wasn't any time before the Beetleball, and things got busy as they always do. Today, however, I finally met up with Paul. After shoveling the out the shed in Whistler we started going through the parts. I left much of it there for a future trip, but still scored on the items I took home. Started sorting through the stuff I actually did bring home, as much of it was "oh, I could use that...", 'great - take the box'.

So, here's the rundown... Large photos can be found on my flickr stream: http://www.flickr.com/photos/dhdynamics/3179389580/in/set-72157612312706056/

The initial stack after unloading into my garage.

First thing I pulled out - an old can of used spark plugs. "uh oh...this is going to be a long evening." :P

Tin of points and condensers. Most were used, found at least four of each brand new.

The gasket tin...before

And after sorting. Between this and the couple of kits I have, I'm not going to need to order a gasket set for some time!

Electrical Fun!

Not all the parts are used... (this is a headlight relay - low to high beams)

Flasher relays, headlight switches

Hazard switches and more

Aiight, what year(s) are the ivory-knob bits from?

Not my taste, but brand new!

This was one of my "scores of the day".

Awwww yeah. Lang.

I had heard about them here on Airspeed, but now I've got one. And low profile too, thank goodness.

Anyone need a set of Type-2 Mirrors?

I'm keeping the Type-1 mirrors!

My '69 has holes in the dash where the fresh-air controls should be. Now I have a set for the '69 and a set for the next Beetle. This was another of my 'big scores'. I really need a set of the controls to finish off my dash.

My engine in the '69 doesn't have the flaps. This set is complete, slide easily and just need a cosmetic retouch. My third big score for the day, now I just need to find a thermostat mount...and my cooling system will be factory fresh.

There is a lot more I haven't gone through yet. Cylinder heads, fresh air hoses, etc. Not too shabby!  Now I just need to find a '59, and the space to store it. Then I can go back for things like the German bumpers and all the early beetle parts :P

The white knobs and blinker and fuel gauge, look like there out of a split window bus. Nice score :)
Later, Jeff
