« on: December 29, 2008, 09:30:09 AM »
January is now Tech Month,
If your working on something special or just doing the brakes on your stock VW add it here. Post some pic's and show us your ideas or how you did that special modification. I'll add links as we go and try and keep them  organized.

This could be a big help to others as well assome much needed motivation to those who's projects are falling behind.

Hanawa has donated 4 very special Japanese magazines as prizes, These are top quality 100% glossy pages. With great coverage of some of the best cars and events! Alright, here's my list...should probably start two project threads...

1975 Beetle -> Project thread: http://airspeedparts.com/online-community/index.php?topic=14610.0
- Interior re-upholstery
- Exterior rust repair
- Exterior re-paint
- Solve the "ran when parked" problem
- Replace front beam
- Lower slightly
- Restore the Kadron exhaust
- Ready car for Sping Thaw Classic Car adventure

1969 Beetle -> Project Thread: http://airspeedparts.com/online-community/index.php?topic=14769.0
- Engine rebuild
- Rear fender repairs
- Rust Repairs w/potential respray. More likely to spray and blend.
- New hood
- Front disc brake conversion
- Pop out windows
- Debating Upholstery overhaul
- Brake overhaul...we're leaking fluid somewhere!
- Possible switch back from one-piece windows...new doors required.
- *edit* Clean the electrical contacts and sort out my hazard light issues

I think that covers the list.

alright fine here it is...

Foremost project on the list is the roll cage, safety first.

Second, some improvements to help with staging/launching the car, going to plumb in a hand brake for the rear wheels. Also updates to the rear suspension to eliminate some of the excessive squatting my car has done on launch. A new clutch is an absolute must as I think I smoked it at the last race.

Third, some motor improvements or updates. Increase the compression ratio from 9.6 to 1 up to about 11.5 to 1, possibly install the NOS system that has been sitting in my garage for 2 years.

Final task is GO FASTER!! Im going to take that 1914 to the limits and then some. :)

O.K. Ive got alot on my plate right now. I have to rebuild the motor in the ghia so Kim can race next year. The cam went flat so I need a new cam and lifters along with a few other goodies.
The motor in the Fiat is in. Carbs on and full of oil and gas. Some minor electrical issues to take care of and its ready to fire up. Everything else is pretty much done. Brakes, alignment, cage, ect. all figured out( I hope). It wont be pretty, just pretty fricken fast Im hop'in. ;D

Lets see some tech posts with pic's showing us how you did what you did and how it worked out ( not just tellin us what you did or want to do) This tech post should help others do the same by following what you did.

Chris, Show us some pic's and what your doing to the motor.

Snapper, lets see some cage tech and why you did it that way, NHRA rules?

All right, Ill try and get some pics. The guy who did the cage (Douglas chassis) says its a legal cage for a 10 sec car. Not saying it will do that, I just wanted to make it safe cause its so small.

It's pretty simple, and lacking photos (I wasn't planning on writing it)...but here's a disc-brake install post:

I will update the post with more spindle-swapping photos when I put the drop-spindles onto my '75.
