is it going to the birds?

well well well, everytime my engine is running at idol and under load it sounds like there are birds signing in the engine-around the engine, to me it sounds like a metal beating on metal sound but everyone else thinks it sounds more like exhaust ive changed exhaust gaskets everywhere and still the damn bird sings, has anyone heard of the heaterboxes rusting inside and have it spitting out the sides of the boxes other than pulling the engine out and doing a good old tear down ( there are no traces of metal when i change oil too)

Done a compression test?
What carbs do you have? (some sqeak at idle)
Sure it's a cylinder and not other things that squeak like distributors?
Tried pulling plug wires one at a time and listening for the noise to stop?

Don't pull it until you find the cause.
