story time...

so early in september i went to meet my aunt & uncle for lunch at the white spot on broadway & larch in vancouver. i pulled in the parking lot at the back of the building, parked the car and went in to get my grub on. 2 hours later we were done and as i was walking back to the car, i noticed a cube van parked in the corner of the lot with some props & movie making equipment in the back of it and about 8-10 movie crew members (with boom mikes, cameras, dollies, props, etc) milling about 2 actors and this nice looking mid 60's convertable mustang parked next to my car. not really thinking or caring too much about the whole production and just wanting to get in the car and get out of their way, i hopped in and fired it up and got ready to leave. some dude comes over and says "we were wondering whose car this was...we wanted to use it in our film and didnt know how to find the owner" (i guess they asked the wait staff and manager to find out who the car belonged to, but they didnt feel like asking everyone in the restaurant about some beat up vw parked in their lot). ;)

so i asked him what it was for and he says that it is part of a promo for the new knight rider and the new 2010 mustang (i guess the new kitt is a mustang...rip fire-chicken ;D)...ford and a company called filmaka.com are having a contest for independent film makers to submit their scripts of a story highlighting the mustang...apparently there were 400+ entries and 22 semi-finalists were given $5000 each and 2 weeks to turn their script into a short film/commercial. out of those 22, there will be 9 chosen as finalists and then 1 film will be chosen out of those 9 as the winner (apparently the winner gets a deal to direct a mustang commercial for ford).

so that's what this film crew was doing. they were one of the 22 semi-finalists and they were shooting a scene for their film that took place at a drive-in (circa late 60's early 70's-ish) and said that the bug fit the look perfectly (there is also an old bmw 2002 in that scene aswell). so they said thanks and look out for the film...and i said no problem and was on my way.

so here it is...nothing special but still kind of cool...a quick cameo at 1:50 in...

for the other 21 entries go to...

Was this the winning film?

no...this film is one of the 22 semi-finalists. i think 7 of the 9 finalists have allready been chosen...and this film isnt one of them...so it's got a very slim chance of becoming a finalist. still kinda neat anyways.
