7" And 8" Fuchs On An Early Beetle?
« on: April 09, 2008, 06:17:16 PM »
I have a set of 15x7\" and 15x8\" wheels that I'm thinking about putting on the 58. I'm just wondering if these will fit and with what tire size?. I have a 3\" narrowed beam and I was thinking about short axles in the rear. I suspect i'll have to run spacers with this set up?
Has anyone done this before ?
Any thoughts?
Thanks
Gerry

7&8x15\" Fuchs are under my car right now.
I have used 195/50s, 205/50s and 205/55s on the front, and 225/50s and 215/60s on the rear.  This is an IRS/BJ car.
Using short axles, you will be able to fit the 8s, although I don't think you will be able to use a really fat tire.  Any extra track due to wider brakes will work against you.
The front may require a spacer.  My BJ beam is 3.75\" shorter and I needed a spacer.

Gerry, if we can arrange for a few cars to be at the same place, we can test fit tires and wheels.  I know Gary, Alan, Mirko, and Darren K all run P pattern with VW short axle swing.  I've got both 215/60s and 225/50s mounted on 8\" Fuchs that could be tested on their cars for fit.

Alan has run 225/50/16s on 7\" Fuchs, and is currently using 205/70/15s on 7s.  The 8s have the extra inch all on the outside.  Maybe Alan can tell you what clearance he has.

Geoff's car has that gay IRS suspension, that's why I didn't include him in the party.

Hey Bruce,
I'm definately not that close yet as to start fitting tires.
I just got these wheels last week and i'm planning a slightly different look with the 58 than my oval..more of a driver. I seen you flying out the freeway over the Port Mann last spring in your yellow car and the look of your car stuck in my mind. Looks like a fun car to drive!
