we're not in cali tho, so no worries.

besides, the pre-1976 exemption doesnt apply to us. afaik, it doesnt matter what year vehicle you own, it has to pass aircare to be eligible for registration.

ways around this would be collectors plates, modified collectors plates, or a designated \"aircare motor\" that would gauruntee a pass....or....a well tuned motor. B)

no I realize it doesn't apply to us directly.  It was just interesting to see.  Also you know if the movement begins to happen in one area things can catch on in others.......

What, like air care? are we not already doing that here. If the emissions standards are kept inline with what could be possible to achive then I don't see anything wrong with forcing us to make our cars run efficient. It really has benefits for daily use as a properly tuned car also uses less fuel. Maybe Jim Martin could will chime in here.

that's exactly what i was getting at. ;)

even tho california has been the leader and set the bar for emissions testing, their pre-76 exemption doesnt apply to us because all our cars need to get tested.

i agree. i dont think the passing levels are out of reach for our old cars. my 64 passed with flying colours & i know jim & lanny have passed big motors....i'm sure there are others who have aswell.

plus....without an lm1, gas analyzer, or knowing what to look for when reading plugs...the aircare results give you pretty precise info about how well your motor is doing.

just my $.02

Whenever someone posts about any tightening of the smog laws anywhere, they always parrot this:

\"Pre-1976 antique and classic vehicles are overwhelmingly well-maintained.\"

I can tell you, the truth is the exact opposite.  Since most old car owners are not mechanics, their cars are usually very badly tuned.  Even though the numbers of old cars is small, their output of pollution is huge.  I have no sympathy for them.
