It's amazing the lengths we as a group go to to get what we need in the name of our beloved VW's. Who else has pics of them retrieving, salvaging, or otherwise furthering the progress of their VW. I didn't think of it at the time but now looking at the picture got to thinking OMG what the hell was I doing out there. Least it wasn't snowing....

I rode the Greyhound all the way up to Ft. St. John in November to buy my beetle, then returned the following Spring and towbarred it all the way back.

Now the person who HASN'T pushed a VW at one point in their life hasn't lived. I parked my first car ('67 beetle) on what little hill there was near my house so I could push start it every day for about a week.

I made the girlfriend push start my Beetle one night at the drive in after I drained the battery beyond the point of being able to crank. Does that make me a bad boyfriend? :lol:

don't know if that makes you bad...resourceful perhaps?but if she pushed the car and it started,that makes her a good girlfriend

My better half pushed my bug on the aproach to Staney Park. That's my BABE.

While most of you can change a master cylinder in 1 1/2 hrs (give or take), I did it by my self, with cane and all in 6 hrs. I was sore for 3 days after.

for what it's worth.. my bug was a LOT lighter than my DC is.. and easier to push in the snow. haha.... not to mention jumping UP.. rather than in to pop the clutch

ah well.

What's the worst thing anyone has had to fix on the side of a road / freeway???

throttle Cable, same '67 beetle. It broke right at the pedal assembly and about a 45 minute trip home at highway speed. Pulled it out and ran the cable out the decklid and around to the driver's window. It was hand held and full throttle all the way home. McGyver had nothing on us that day. Not at all a bad fix but it took a while to get figured out. Could have been a long walk home.

Last week replaced points on the side of the #1 just off the HOV lave with traffic flyin by.... Can you say DUSTY AND WINDY!!!!!!!!!!!! Got my nerves up... AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!

I drive 15 hours every year to go to the GCVWS. Then I drive 6 hours to the nearest swap meet...

She also spotted the barndoor single cab when I was hunting for it...I think she's a keeper.

Worst repair I had to do on the side of the road....pull and replace the engine on a T3 Ghia after it grenaded outside Seattle.

I've very rarely been let down by an aircooled VW, and it was never anything serious. Back when I had my Diesel Vanagon it overheated on a gravel backroad in Humboldt County, CA, and the low water sensor popped out of the coolant fill tank. We used a plastic bag and a piece of wire to fix it, and it got us back to Eugene. Oregon, where I fixed it a bit better. The plastic bag seal never leaked, so I left it there!
