Real Street Vw Shootout 2004
« on: March 01, 2004, 07:50:33 PM »
Like the title says, let's give Geoff some feedback to make this event happen!

Dates:
Rules/Classes:
Etc....

Personally I like late May, better chance of good weather/my car being completed :)

Rules:
Stroker/non classes?
Specific length drive so everyone is on the same playing field (no trailer queen drag cars)
Full Street trim or gutted? Weigh in prior?
Grudge matches - I got some smack to back up!

Displacement classes:
up to 1600
1776-1914
2007-2332
Nitrous/ turbos

Have a weight restriction (min weight per class)
Have to be insured(even if permit)
Have to run a muffler
Meet at airspeed and drive out.
If you run it on a Sat race, it would be more relaxed and could bbq and stuff.

3 runs, best recorded time

my $.02

If more power is better. Then too much is just enough.
Why do it once when you can do it thrice?

I guess that excludes my 1995 motor..... 82x88 super thick heavy wall Berg specials ;)
Maybe I can run in my own class!

I'm building an 88x82 (VW journal) for my bus...

Why no 1641's or 1679's and other combos out there between 1600 and 1776(should be 1775)?  The gaps need to be filled, maybe somethin' like...

up to 1600cc's or 1585
1586-1774
1775-1915
1916-2332/2387/2443/2498/Unlimited
A/A

2027 (94x73.025 Chevy journal) for a drag motor
2017 (90.5x78.4 Porsche journal) for a daily driver in a Beetle
Got some NOS 90B's too...someone wanna' donate a 76mm crank for 1934cc's?

Yes the later the better.  June even, then maybe I have a chance at getting my car done.  I have not been saying much lately because of all the stuff i have to look after in regards to our move.

This event will be a Spring kick off with maybe another one held late in Summer, for the die hards we will be driving out every street legal night.

As for classes, the simpler the better as we will have to run in the reg import class and keep track of everyones passes.  Everyone has good input so far, lets hear some more before we make a date.

This is a main fact:

THE CARS MUST BE DRIVEN FROM AIRSPEED TO THE TRACK.  YOU SHOULD NOT BEABLE TO TRAILER YOUR CAR FROM AIRSPEED TO MISSION!!!

Stephan, That is the point to this event, maybe you (and others havent read the earlier posts)
This event is the \"Real street VW shoot out\" The way it works is everyone meets at Airspeed, signs up...we drive to Chevron at 200th where everyone fills up on the same gas (you can run anything they have on tap) then we all drive to the track, race and drive home. If you want to trailor your car home that is fine, the main part is driving to Mission and running the #'s.

More info coming soon!!!

It's all about \"Street cars\" no mix fuel no race gas all pump all driven.
Your luck shane all u gotta do is turn the boost down...(that car runs fine on pump gas anyway)

i, personally, dont like the weight restrictions rule. it doesnt seem like a \"real street vw\" rule. icbc doesnt have weight restrictions and the cops cant give you a ticket for having a light car. i know that full interior/trim cars are at a disadvantage here, but it just means that they'll have to make it up somewhere else. and what about the buggies or rails that may want to partake?

I only know of 2 street legal rails.. and they dont have huge power..
But like you said silas aslong as they are street legal.... weight is what it is.....

classes should be----under 2 litre /over 2 litre /forced induction
pump gas and street tires ,
as far as weight goes/rules,  i would say -everyone has 5 gallons of gas and 2 frt seats and rear seat set all lights operating and be insured after that anything goes.so rip out the carpets, put helium in the tires ,clean the door pockets out and go racing !!!!!!!!!
