i dont have much experience with electronic drum kits...because i've been playing on real kits for 20 years and nothing beats the real thing. the action, sound, feel, and dynamics that can be created on a real kit cannot be re-created digitally.
however, i have been visiting the local rehersal spot and they recently built a small room with an electronic drum kit in it. i dont know the model off hand, but i can find out for you. i've used this kit a few times and it's pretty fun. it's a good way to dust of the cobwebs and re-learn chops. it's also pretty cool because this particular set-up has 99 programs so you can get some pretty cool sounds going on. i can also hook up a cd player and play along to my favourite nelly furtado cd (j/k)...but it is nice to play along with a cd. there is also a click track which is good for honing your time-keeping.
with that said...i think an electronic kit has it's place. it's good for beginners, doesnt take up alot of space, has the headphone option, and some of them are reasonably priced.
one thing i dont like tho, is hitting those pads. i've heard it's pretty hard on your wrists after extended use. there are some electronic kits with mesh heads (pretty sure they're more expensive) and with those heads it's easier on your body and it \"feels\" more like hitting a real drum skin.
either way....music is fun and drumming is a blast. keeps your mind and body busy!!!
good luck & have fun with it kevin.
