Oil Filter
« on: February 28, 2004, 11:24:39 AM »
Just to let everyone know there is a great alternative to those crappy spin on oil filters. Even the Fram HP-1 is not what it used to be. The insides are the same cheap stuff as in the PH8A, just a thicker can.

I recently switched to a Canton-Mecca filter. They make filters for race cars and are used on many NASCAR teams. They offer a direct replacement for the HP-1 application. It's a spin on billet canaster with a replacable element. The element filters down to 8 microns and has an extended service life (20,000 miles). It's perfect for use with the extended life of synthetic or can be used for a number of organic oil changes without needing to be replaced.

My car is only driven 3000 miles per year, so i plan on opening the canister and seeing what's inside with every oil change. I'll replace the element every few years. The price is not cheap, about $80, but it's well worth it. Ever start you engine on a cold day and burst a filter? Not with this one.
