Where To Buy Machine Tools?

Where would one go to buy a tie rod arm tap (14 x 1.25 I think?) and a ream for the tie rod ends (don't know the # for that one)? Figure these would be handy tools to have around.

Thanks Bruce. That's right down the street. Do I have the size of the tap right? 14 x 1.25? Would you happen to know what size or taper the ream would be?

why the ream for the tie-rod ends? are you planning to do the ream & re-bush so you can flip your tie-rods?

I think I read somewhere 5/8\" but i'd get the bushings first and measure them then ream to fit

I just installed a set of tie rid flip bushings in my car, you need to drill a 5/8 hole and wackem in with a hammer.

I think it is 5/8 if you want to run the tie rod flip bushings but I tought I read somewhere you can just buy the proper ream and just ream the opposite side of the spindle where the tie rod mounts and your done. No bushing. I figured I might be doing this a few times so I might as well buy the ream instead of the flip kit. Maybe I'll see if the kit is reasonably priced then it it probably not worth it.

wouldnt the flip kit allow you to hammer it out and put it in the correct way should you ever want to?  Reeming is a one-way street.

someone please correct me if i'm wrong here....

the tie-rod end is tapered and it fits into the tapered hole in the spindle (tapered meaning larger at the top tapering to a smaller diameter bottom). so if you tried to re-taper the hole in the spindle from the bottom you would just end up with one big hole.

hence the tie-rod flip kit. use your 5/8's drill bit and drill out the hole....press in your bushing from the bottom (so the tapered hole is now opposite the way it originally was....and you're good to go.
