How reliable would 92mm cylinders be on a daily driver? Would they run a lot hotter or be more prone to cracking? Anyone here driving on 92mm cylinders? I found what I think to be a pretty good deal on a 2180cc engine but am wondering how this engine would perform during the hot summer months as a daily driver. Any comments?? Thanks B)

Not a DVKK member.

I drove my 68 with a wild 1835cc for the end of Fall and begining of Summer. It had and agressive cam but ran well. I would think that whether it run hot or not would depend on the building specs i.e compresion, exhaust, heads/valves, etc. even if the cylinders are thiner than 90.5s. Do you know who built it?

If the price is that good, buy it and run it. Then if it doesn't last, pull the P&Cs off and slip in some 90.5s.

Yeah thats what I'm figuring right now.
I know I'll probably get some flak for the engine manufacturer, but its a GEX 2180, still brand new, never installed, and complete turnkey w/ chrome Empi offroad exhaust (which I'll be selling if anyone wants dibs) for $2600. I'm thinking if I can get at least a few km's out of it, then I can save up for something more along the lines of what I would like to build, aka: that beautfiul kit that Matt is selling that I can't justify buying right now.

I've heard varying stories regarding the 92mm cylinders but hopefully they would hold up for at least a few summers of driving. Thanks for the input. Any more??

I've run my 1835 for years without any problems. Nothing too wild just a good reliable driver.

I'm not pushing my shit on ya here dude, but GEX?? you get what you pay for and when that motor blows faster than a cheap hooker that \"kit\" I have may not be available still.

Buy quality and cry once.

Not DVKK but I have to agree with Matt. Do a search on the Samba forums about GEX and see what they say about the company. Good luck.

That does make a lot of sence.
Look for feedback.

If you buy a part worth 300.00 from out of the Province and you have bad luck with it, You get over.

If you put out 2-3Ks on and engine look at a local guy (evevn if you have to wait 6 more month to raise extra $$$.)

Alright, I realize the bad rap GEX has...I was just thinking out loud mulling around different ideas...wasn't toooo serious about that one.
Thanks for the info regarding cylinders... egspot & Trevor P .... I've heard/read nothing but good things about the 1835's....solid performers.
To the other posts...gets me thinking back to square one about getting it built the way I want it built in the first place. Might just have to work a bunch more O/T and save up to get 'er done right!

For what is worth:

I have an 1835cc long block (aprox. 4000 miles on it) with dual Kads stored by a friend that could be had for 2K and additionally, a new set of Mahle 90.5 piston and 4 cylinders (to change it to 1776cc) for 150.00 with the engine.
