I just called Paul and let him in on the details. Apparently it's for a Barbie commercial...

Turns out that their preference is a \"new\" beetle but they can't find a pink one. So the cheapest option is to use an old bug. Another option of theirs is to use a new beetle and alter the color using a computer. It's all still up in the air.
